Accommodations on Vancouver
Island.
This
page contains information about Vancouver Island , but does not include
Victoria.
The
Island is very large with many interesting areas, to make information easier to
find we have divided this page into North Island,
South Island and West Coast. The division point is
Nanaimo.
Parksville | Qualicum Beach |
Comox | Courtenay |
Campbell River | Port McNeill |
Port Hardy
Getting there The northern part of the Island is
accessible by ferry from several terminals. Coming from the USA ferries
from Washington State take travellers to the Victoria area. BC Ferries
offers a ferry from Tsawwassen to Duke Point (near Nanaimo) which saves driving
through the Greater Vancouver area. Ferries from Horseshoe Bay (at the
western tip of West Vancouver), cross to Departure Bay (near Nanaimo.)
Another route is via the Sunshine Coast. This trip
involves several ferries and is a very popular "circle route." Starting from
Horseshoe Bay, take the ferry to Langdale (near Gibsons) drive north along the
Sechelt Peninsula to Earls Cove. At this point a short ferry trip takes you to
Saltery bay, driving further north one ends up in Powell River. The next ferry
ride crosses from Powell River to Comox on Vancouver Island. Coming from
the Queen Charlotte Islands, the ferry arrives at Port Hardy near the northern
tip of the Island.
