What is Baker Services?
Baker Services is a family run business located in Vancouver. For the
past 2 years we have been involved in the B&B Industry in the Vancouver
area. In June of 1998 Baker Services was awarded the contract to handle the
Western Canada B&B Association's Telephone Reservation System. We have made
reservations for thousands of very satisfied customers. Unlike larger online
reservation services we have been in many of these buildings, all are safe,
clean and as secure as possible. Any resource which does not meet a very high
standard of quality simply does not appear on this web site.
As
stated on the WCBBIA web site:
Over 130 fully inspected B&B's have now
qualified as members of WCBBIA. Our criteria include maintenance of rigid
Quality Assurance Programme Inspection guidelines for guest facilities, safety
and security, cleanliness and housekeeping, food preparation, service and
hospitality. Each individually owned and operated member inn promises you the
kind of warm hospitality, personal service and attention to detail that makes
for cherished memories.

Credit Card policy
Internet Security
is a major issue these days and the ability to process credit cards is a very
expensive venture. Since this is a no charge to the guest service, Baker
Services does not have any reason to process credit information, all credit
info is given to the individual accommodations owner. Your credit card info is
required by the owner to secure your reservation, if preferred, after making a
reservation we will supply the owners email, phone # and fax #, your credit
info can be passed directly to the owner.
GST is an abbreviation for Goods and Services
Tax. This tax is 7%, charged on most goods and services in Canada. If you
retain all of your receipts, the 7% may may reclaimed from the Government of
Canada. Forms are available at any border crossing point. Mail the form back to
Canada and you should be reimbursed the allowable amounts. ![]()
Most B&B's follow the same procedures with cancellations. When you initially reserved the room, you were charged a "one night's" retaining fee. This retaining fee is usually not refundable. The B&B may have turned away several other people wishing to book the same times as you. If you cancel at the last moment, the B&B may lose all of the income for the nights you have reserved. Individual B&B's have their own policies, and you should get an informational letter along with your confirmation. Most B&Bs are moving to a two week cancellation policy.
"Driving" to Victoria is not done without getting on a ferry (it's on Vancouver Island.) The ferry ride takes approximately 1 1/2 hours, the overall trip to Victoria is about 3 hours (as long as you can drive right on the ferry.) Bear in mind that on weekends and holidays, the ferries are very busy. You may be delayed as much as a half a day, waiting for a ferry

The Okanagan area is in Central B.C. The main cities in the Okanagan are: Kelowna, Penticton, Vernon, Osooyoos, and many small towns in between. Kelowna is 5 hours from Vancouver (via Coquihalla HWY 5.) Penticton is about 6 hours via HWY 3.
Driving to the Alberta border takes about 12 hours, via the Coquihalla HWY 5. Banff is in Alberta, very near the BC-Alberta border.
Kamloops is in the Thompson-Okanagan area in central BC. Driving time is 4 1/2 hours via Coquihalla HWY 5.

A green flashing light is usually a pedestrian crosswalk. The pedestrian pushes a button, the light turns red, the pedestrian crosses the street. Don't hit them! Also, many intersections are having sensors installed. When a vehicle drives over the sensor the light will change, allowing the vehicle to cross.
